- Created the Pilates method during the war while working as a nurse.  He began by putting springs and pulleys on hospital beds to get the wounded soldiers stronger.<br />
- He called his foundation “The Art of Contrology” which encompasses six principles:<br />
&#8211;Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath, Flow.</p>
<p>Romana Kryzanowska<br />
- Discovered Pilates after a dancing injury and made a commitment to herself and Joseph Pilates to continue his life’s work as his protégé.<br />
- Now called “Romana’s Pilates,” she is still teaching today to ensure that the next generation of pilates instructors are staying true to his methods.</p>

Health and fitness has always been an important factor for her to keep her competitive edge in the athletic world. She was introduced to Pilates at the age of 16 when she was forced to go through rehab for a gymnastic injury to her left arm.</p>
<p>Jennifer then went on to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Nutritional Science from Michigan State University and after graduating decided to get Certified in Pilates in 2004.</p>
<p>With 8 years of pilates experience Jenni is ready to bring her west coast style and energy to Virginia Beach, Virginia.</p>
<p>Jenni will be teaching our 9AM Saturday Mat Classes and is excited to meet all of you!</p>

My name is Kelsey Rotunno and I have some exciting news!  I am beginning a new business as a Health Coach.  I will be working with people on how to reach their health goals, including stress reductions, increasing energy, losing weight and improving their confidence.  I&#8217;ll accomplish this by supporting them with their food and lifestyle choices.</p>
<p>I have always had an interest in health and nutrition and enjoyed sharing this knowledge with my friends, colleagues and family.  I decided to increase this knowledge and learn, in a formal training program, how to live a better life through eating well and taking care of myself.  I am currently enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.  I am learning to improve my life, and am receiving very detailed and careful instruction on how to coach others around food and lifestyle choices.  It&#8217;s an exciting time!</p>
<p>I look forward to sharing more with you about my new career path, and all of the benefits of this work.  I&#8217;ll be inviting people to health consultations in the near future, to have the opportunity to support them to create a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life.  I&#8217;ll be in touch periodically to let you know how my training is progressing.</p>

<p>The Reformer is one of many exercise equipments created by Joseph Pilates.  He designed them to assist and resist his students through ranges of motion and to get them strong enough so they could do the Pilates Mat work successfully.  The reformer is made up of springs and pulleys to help guide your body through the correct movement of the exercises.  It has a sliding platform attached with springs at one end and it can be moved by pulling on ropes or pushing off from a stationary foot bar.</p>
<p>Why choose the Reformer?</p>
<p>It may produce quicker results!  Arms, legs and core muscles can looks firmer and defined.  The resistance produced by the pulley and spring system can provide one with a challenging strength and endurance workout.  Unlike mat classes, the reformers are used for privates or duets, which can provide you with the most individualized attention throughout your whole workout.</p>
